James Carlos “Buddy” Street Jr.

Longtime circulation manager Street dies

A memorial Mass for longtime Eunice News and Church Point News circulation manager “Buddy” Street is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard with the Rev. Tom Voorhies officiating.
James Carlos “Buddy” Street Jr. died Monday. He was 68.
Darrell Guillory, chief operating officer, said, Street battled cancer over the past few years.
“I hired Buddy nearly 24 years ago,” Guillory said, “I remember him calling me about an opening we had and I hired him on the spot because of his character, honesty and work ethic.  You could always count on Buddy, he was a great friend and colleague and we will all miss him.”
Street began work as circulation manager on Nov. 13, 1991.
Co-worker Myra Miller, lifestyle editor, recalled Street as a tennis player and a man with a sense of humor.
“I had the opportunity to play a mixed-doubles tennis tournament with Bud. I think we came out second place. I remember him telling me at the end of our match, ‘Good thing I had you as a partner... and good thing you carried me through!’”
Blake Messner production manager, also remembered Street’s humor.
“What I remember about Buddy is he always had a smile on his face, and always joking and kidding around. He never had a negative thing to say about anybody or anything. Always willing to help anyone at anytime. Truly a great guy! I will miss him very much.”
Anissa Israel, advertising manager, said, “I’ve worked with Buddy for years. He is so special to me, more than a fellow employee — he’s like beloved family.  Even though he has much compassion for everyone, he was always quick to make light of a situation — which made everyone laugh ... that laughter alone made things better.”
Israel added that even as Street became ill, “I don’t ever remember seeing him down or without a smile on his face.”
Street was a 1965 graduate of Eunice High School. He served in the Air Force and held the rank of sergeant with the military police.
