LSU prez says Eunice campus staying open

Reassures students, community in wake of unfounded media report

The precise budget form is still to be determined, but LSU System President F. King Alexandria assures students and supporters that the Eunice campus will be open come the Fall.
An unfounded rumor is making the rounds that LSU Eunice as well as the system campuses in Shreveport and Alexandria will be axed as the state struggles to close a horrendous budget deficit at the upcoming legislative session.
“LSU Eunice is vital to its region, communities and students. We are committed to it,” King said last week.
A letter to all students and to prospective students re-iterating that the university will be open for business was scheduled to be mailed at week’s end, officials said.
Meanwhile, the committee charged with recruiting candidates to succeed retiring Chancellor William Nunez has set a timeline that envisions a selection by late Spring.
