The Eunice city council may name its appointees to a master plan steering committee at its meeting Tuesday.
Each alderman is to appoint two people to the committee, which is to be charged with studying the feasibility of the city developing a master plan, which is a document charting future development.
Mayor Rusty Moody also is to appoint someone to the committee.
Jack Burson, alderman at-large, suggested the appointments be made Tuesday during an agenda-setting meeting at City Hall Thursday.
Don Reber, who heads the Eunice Economic Development Committee, was at the meeting asking to be placed on the agenda.
“It is imperative the city engage in this process as quickly as possible,” Reber said.
Reber said he spent about four hours giving a tour to someone interested in locating apartments and full-service hotels in Eunice.
“They know what is going on in southwest Louisiana,” he said. “They know the amount of money that is being invested in Calcasieu Parish, Lake Charles, and you can’t take that much money and just pour it in one area and stay there. It spreads out.”
The man was interested in the city’s longterm plan, he said.
“They are not interested in going someplace to invest a lot of money when a city is operating on a day to day basis,” he said.
Other agenda items include:
— A report on properties at 140 and 150 Kyries Road, which are in the condemnation process.
— Final adoption of the rezoning of the north part of 1700 West Laurel for the Hacienda restaurant. A public hearing is scheduled at 6:15 p.m. on the residential to business zoning change.
— Introduction of an ordinance to sell North Park Baseball Park.
— A property trade with Bayou State Investment.
— Development of youth council.
— Trash and debris containment and pickup.
Police Chief Randy Fontenot plans to ask the council to approve a change in a lease-purchase agreement for five police vehicle. Fontenot said two Tahoes were wanted, but production of police units is not scheduled to begin until the end of the year. He wants to obtain two Ford Tauruses and three Ford Explorers equipped with police gear.
