Numerous community prayer services have been held in the wake of the Grand 16 Theatre shooting in Lafayette that killed two people and wounded nine others on July 23.
A prayer and candlelight vigil was held Tuesday that was organized by the Baptist Student Center and Catholic Student Center on the LSUE campus.
Prior to the service, Monsignor J. Robert Romero, pastor of St. Anthony Padua in Eunice and Annuciation of The Blessed Virgin Mary in Duralde, explained what prayer accomplishes.
“It connects us with God and lets God reach us in our sorrow, in our shock, in our desolation. Remember, this is the same God that died on the cross, so he gives meaning to our suffering and is with us not just as a person but as a community God is there.
“And because of this we are able to carry on and see hope, see light in our darkness.”
