Abadie performed his first Mass at St. Elizabeth Seaton Catholic Church in Lafayette on June 6.
Abadie, 29, born to Sharon and Jules L. Abadie Jr. of Lafayette on Aug. 10, 1985, attended and graduated from James E. Taylor High School in Katy, Texas, in 2004.
He was among 580 graduating seniors. He said, “I enjoyed high school, and most of all math and science were my favorite subjects.”
His extended family includes his step-father Carl Hubacher. His mother and stepfather live in Aberdeen, Scotland, where his step-father works as petroleum division supervisor.
Abadie is the middle child of the family. His older brother Chad Abadie resides in Lafayette, and younger brother Jake Abadie lives in Youngsville. He has two step-brothers, Matthew and Zaine Hubacher.
After graduating high school, Abadie attended Texas A & M for two years where he studied physics and mechanical engineering.
Abadie then attended seminary at St. Joseph Seminary in Covington for two years where he received a bachelor’s of arts degree.
The following two years took Abadie to Assumption Seminary in San Antonio where he studied theology with a focus in Spanish.
Abadie took one year off of his seminary studies and taught physics and geometry at John Paul The Great Academy in Lafayette.
Abadie’s next seminary studies was completed at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans where he received his master’s in divinity in May 2014.
Abadie served as a deacon for one year at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Iberia.
Abadie enjoys running. He participated in a 5K run, “The Running of the Bulls,” last year at the Spanish Festival held in New Iberia.
“I got a Viking hat,” he said, with a laugh, “And I took first place in my age group, 23.50 was my time, which is not real great. But, I enjoy running.”
Also, Abadie tries ‘his luck’ at cooking. “I’m starting to take a liking to Mediterranean foods. I’m trying to cook different Greek dishes.”
Abadie says he plans to be involved on campus at St. Edmund school. “I’m looking forward to doing some campus ministries.”
