Chief: We're not playing hide and seek

Rules note: If you decide to play chase with cops, there is no “King’s X” spot.
That point was re-iterated by Chief Randy Fontenot on Monday after an incident early Saturday.
An officer on patrol observed a vehicle apparently speeding on West Maple shortly before 2 a.m.
The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect vehicle continued, turning onto Hill, where a rolling stop and a stop sign violation were observed.
According to records the driver twice tried to strike the police unit with his vehicle while fleeing to 440 Hill.
There, Fontenot said, the record indicates that Kavin McDaniel, 25, of 551 West Maple got out of his vehicle and was told to go to the back of his vehicle. Instead, the report notes, McDaniel allegedly did not, instead telling the officer that police had no right to compel him to do anything because he was on private property.
While this was happening, a woman identified as Robyn Buxon, 22, of 440 Hill ran out, telling police she was McDaniel’s girlfriend and that he was on private property and they had no right to be there.
Ultimately, McDaniel was subdued with a taser shot, according to the record, and charged with DWI, resisting an officer, resisting an officer by flight with a motor vehicle, speeding, no driver’s license on person and stop sign violation.
Buxon was booked on disturbing the peace and interfering with duties of a police officer.
As for their private property argument, Chief Fontenot said, “We’re not playing a hide-and-seek game in which you can reach home base and be safe. A chase continues to wherever it ends, public property or private,” he said.
