Parish Council to fix its travel budget
The St. Landry Parish Council plans to adjust its travel budget at its regular meeting on May 18.
At the the Council’s Administrative and Finance Committee Wednesday, an overrun of the budget was discussed.
The budget is $6,000, but Council members spent about $13,000 going to state and a national conference. Councilmen Jerry Red, Ken Marks and Timmy Lejeune attended the National Association of Counties convention in Washington, D.C., which was the big ticket item.
Chad Pitre, legal counsel, said the Council could amend its budget or appropriate more money into the travel budget.
Bill Fontenot, parish president, said in the past overages have been covered by fund transfers.
The committee also approved millages to be voted on by the Council.
The millage rates are 3.78 mills, general alimony; 1.890, exempted municipalities; 2.17 mills, health units; 8.43 mills, Road District No. 11A, Sub 2; 10.19 mills, Road District 1, Ward 3; 9.62 mills, Road District 3, Ward 1, Sub 1; 4.8 mills, Road District 12, Ward 2; 9.26 mills, Road District 11A, Sub 1; 1 mill, jail parishwide.
In the Public Works Committee, Fontenot said crews are attacking beaver dams by trapping or killing beavers.
The committee forwarded a resolution to enter an inter-governmental agreement with Grand Coteau for drainage work on Burleigh Lane.
Councilwoman Mildred Thierry received support for her request to have someone from the Community Action Agency attend a meeting to explain the utility assistance program.
Thierry also complained that uneven culverts are creating standing water. Fontenot said the issue will be addressed.
