Police Dept., City Court transitions begin

The transition process began Monday in the Eunice Police Department and City Court, less than 48 hours after winners in Saturday’s run-off voting had been decided.
Terry Hoychick was elected city court judge and Randy Fontenot was the police chief winner.
By mid-morning Monday, incumbent Chief Ronald Dies had met with Fontenot and the chief-elect’s transition team chairman to outline procedure for the administrative changeover.
The "meeting" was on the parking lot adjacent to the police department, where Dies happened to be chatting with officers and others when Fontenot and his group came out.
Retired State Trooper Bernie Daigle is heading Fontenot’s transition group. Other members include retired Eunice officers Brett Faulkner and John Cormier.
During the informal get together Dies delegated working with Fontenot’s team to Lt. Richard Daigle, who is also chief of detectives, and to chief’s secretary Sherry Clark.
Fontenot and Bernie Daigle emphasized to Dies that they are not interested in personnel or investigative issues, that their attention would be to such things as equipment inventory, evidence inventory, procedures and policy and the like.
Dies extended his personal cooperation and his department's to the team and to Fontenot as preparation for the Jan. 1 changeover begins.
Meanwhile, employees in City Court said Judge-Elect Hoychick was expected later in the morning to meet with retiring Judge Lynette Feucht to begin laying groundwork for that transition.
A major item for Hoychick will be choosing a successor to Chief-elect Fontenot, who is the court’s senior probation officer.
