Sales tax revenue increased in October
Sales tax revenue was on the rise in October in St. Landry Parish and in Eunice, a report from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division indicates.
Eunice sales tax revenues were up 3.5 percent in October compared to October 2014. October sales revenues were $445,725, up $15,443 from a year ago.
The Eunice October sales tax revenues of $445,725 were up 4.4 percent from September when collections were $427,084.
Eunice sales tax revenues through October were $4,427,327, which is 1.4 percent above the year-to-date revenues in 2014.
Year-to-date total St. Landry Parish sales tax revenues as of October were 2.7 percent more than in 2014. The total parish sales tax revenues were $55,848,299 at the end of October, up from $54,343,376 during the same period in 2014.
The parish sales tax total includes parish, school, solid waste, law enforcement and municipal taxes.
The parish sales tax revenues in October were 5.8 percent greater than in October 2014. The parish total sales tax revenue was $5,882,038 in October, up from $5,558,609 in October 2014.
The sales tax rate in Eunice is 9.75 percent. Of that 4 percent is state, 3.55 percent is parish and 2.2 percent is city.
Unincorporated areas pay an 9.5 percent sales tax revenue, which includes 4 percent state and 5.5 percent state rates.
Monday’s sales report comes about a week after the Louisiana Workforce Commission reported St. Landry Parish’s unemployment rate was 7.8 percent in September, down from 8.1 percent a year ago in September.
However, there were 31,331 people working in St. Landry Parish in September, down from 31,893 a year ago — a 562 person reduction in the number of people employed. There were 2,656 people looking for work in the parish, down from 2,822 a year ago.
