Long-time Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office public information officer Maxine Trahan was booked into the Acadia Parish jail Friday on a charge of felony theft over $25,000.
Trahan, who has also spearheaded the parish CHOICES program since its inception in 2012, is accused of embezzling money from the sheriff’s office.
She was booked into jail just after noon on Friday on warrants issued by the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Bond was set at $50,000.
Her arrest is part of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the district attorney’s office in Acadia Parish and the Louisiana State Police, according to a brief news release from the sheriff’s office.
Attempts to contact Sheriff Wayne Melancon Friday afternoon for comment were unsuccessful.
