St. Landry Coucil appoints new registrar

The St. Landry Parish Council appointed a new registrar of voters at a special meeting Tuesday night, completing John Moreau’s fall from grace.
Moreau, 51, submitted notice of retirement last Friday, the same day he was charged with felony criminal damage for allegedly “keying” an apparent former romantic interest’s car on the courthouse parking lot.
Cheryl Milburn, who has worked in the registrar’s office since 1977, first for Moreau’s mother, Ruby, and for him since 1985, was appointed by the council.
The job is a life-time appointment, barring removal for cause.
