State income tax filing deadline is Monday

The deadline for filing 2015 Louisiana individual income tax returns is Monday.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue recommends taxpayers file electronically for the fastest, most error-free tax return processing. Louisiana File Online (www.revenue.louisiana.gov/fileonline) is the state’s free tax filing web application. Through Louisiana File Online, taxpayers can file returns, make payments and upload supporting documentation. There are no fees associated with its use. Taxpayers may also file electronically using commercially-available tax preparation software.
Taxpayers who need more time to prepare their returns must submit their extension requests by the May 16 filing deadline to avoid late-filing penalties. Visit www.revenue.louisiana.gov/extensions to request an extension electronically. An extension allows only more time to file a return. Tax payments are still due by May 16, and are subject to penalties and interest if submitted late.
Taxpayers in areas of the state declared federal disaster areas following storms and flooding in March are eligible for filing and payment extensions for various taxes with due dates between March 8 and July 15, including state individual income tax returns Monday. The disaster-related extended deadline for state income taxes is July 15.
Disaster-related extensions are not granted automatically. They must be requested from the Department of Revenue.
Taxpayers filing electronically must request a disaster-related extension only after having filed by calling the LDR Customer Service Center at 855-307-3893. Taxpayers filing a paper return may request a disaster-related extension by writing “La. Flooding 2016” in black ink on the top of the return.
Disaster extensions are available to taxpayers whose homes, principal places of business or critical tax records are located in the following parishes declared federal disaster areas: Allen, Ascension, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, Calcasieu, Caldwell, Catahoula, Claiborne, DeSoto, East Carroll, Franklin, Grant, Jackson, LaSalle, Lincoln, Livingston, Madison, Morehouse, Natchitoches, Ouachita, Rapides, Red River, Richland, Sabine, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Union, Vernon, Washington, Webster, West Carroll and Winn.
