Stop that shopping cart!
It is among the oddest of Be On Look Out notices transmitted by a Eunice police communications officer.
The described suspect was thought to be fleeing Walmart along U.S. 190 West, in an electric shopping cart stolen from the retailer.
The call came in early Saturday afternoon and it didn’t take long for responding officers to track down the alleged thief, stopping his flight at Larry’s Tires just down the road from the Walmart outlet.
Daniel Gaspard, 46, of 713 Tate has allegedly fled the store on one of its electric carts made available for persons unable to walk behind a regular cart in the store.
Gaspard allegedly took with him on his cart flight alcohol, Mardi Gras merchandise and television parts.
He wasn’t supposed to be at the store to begin with, police say, because he has been permanently banned after prior incidents.
This time, he’s charged with felony theft and criminal trespass.
It’s not known whether the cart ran out of juice before police caught up with it.
