Trio held in invasion-armed robbery
OPELOUSAS – An accused armed robber’s decision to not wear a mask and the refusal of two others in his posse to gun down their victim has led to the arrest of all three teenagers.
St. Landry Parish Criminal Investigative Division Detectives have arrested three men who alleged committed a violent home invasion-armed robbery.
Deshawn “Trey” Bocard, 18, of Hwy. 749, Opelousas; Roderick Charles. Jr., 18, of Delores Place, Opelousas; and Loran P. Hicks ,Jr., 18, of W. Hill St., Washington, have all been arrested and charged with Armed Robbery.
The three men are accused of participating in an armed robbery during ae home invasion that took place on Feb. 2 on Celvinie Ln., Opelousas.
On that night, at about 10:30, the victim heard a knock on his door. When he opened the door, he came face to face with terror.
On the victim’s porch, stood three men, armed with a shotgun. They forced their way into his home, beat him, held the barrel of the shotgun to his head, threatened to kill him, and stole undisclosed items and cash from his home.
Two of the men wore masks, one all black and the other designed to look like a human skull. The third man called himself “Trey” and wore no mask, the victim said.
Detectives believe that the reason the man was not masked was because he wanted to look less suspicious as he knocked on the victim’s front door.
During the encounter, “Trey” repeatedly encouraged the two masked men to shoot the suspect in the head, possibly fearful that if the victim was not murdered, he may eventually identify the unmasked “Trey”, detectives said. He was right.
As the minutes passed, the victim saw that he had a chance to escape. He made a break for the back door and managed to get away.
Once outside, he called for help from neighbors, telling them to call 911. He then chased after the trio, who had fled from his home on foot.
The victim chased the men to their getaway car. The enraged man picked up a brick and threw it at the car, hitting the front windshield, then threw another brick at the passenger rear window as the speeding car fled.
Detectives explained that the victim put a great deal of effort into identifying “Trey”. He asked questions around the “Oil Mill” area of Opelousas and eventually got a lead guiding him to the Facebook page of Deshawn Terrell “Trey” Bocard.
Detectives located Bocard and he was placed under arrest. Bocard is currently being held on a $150,000 bond pending trial.
On Feb. 12, detectives were able to identify the two masked men as Charles and Hicks. They were arrested Feb. 18 and are currently being held on a $150,000 dollar bond pending trial. All three men face up to 99 years at hard labor.
