Occupant was only person in home at time of fire

A victim rescued from a house fire Monday morning is being treated at Acadian Medical Center, said Eunice Fire Chief Mike Arnold.
"She is in intensive care, but she is sitting up and talking," Arnold said. "She's 87 years old, and she told me she'll be 88 for Christmas."
The fire occurred around 10 a.m., and smoke was seen coming from the home's roof. Neighbors informed firefighters from the fire department and fire districts from St. Landry and Acadia parish that someone was in the home in the 100 block of South Tanglewood Drive. The female victim was in the home by herself, and firefighters were able to rescue her safely. She was transported from the scene by ambulance to the hospital.
Arnold said the fire is still under investigation and that the fire likely started near bay windows at the front of the home.
