Jenkins signs contract for top school job

At the end of Thursday’s St. Landry Parish School Board, Patrick Jenkins signed a contract with the board to serve two and half years as superintendent.
But before that happened board members exposed a split in their ranks even though the contract was approved on a unanimous vote.

Voting is Tuesday

Voting on a ballot topped by a presidential election is scheduled from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Sample ballots for the election are Page 6. A list of voting precincts is on Page 3.
Early voting, held from Oct. 25 to Nov. 1, indicates strong interest in the election.

Parish government to end year with $830,000 deficit

The St. Landry Parish Government budget hit the fan and blew a $830,000 deficit onto the Parish Council on Wednesday.
Parish President Bill Fontenot, in a budget message for the draft 2017 budget, reported the deficit in the 2016 budget.
