VIRGIE JOHNSON MANUEL

Funeral services were held for Virgie Johnson Manuel, 85, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 22. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.

Ms. Manuel died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Ville Platte Medical Center. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include one son, Wendell Manuel and his wife, Debbie, of Ville Platte; one sister, Betty Picard of Lake Charles; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Paulina Thompson Johnson; her husband, Clifford Manuel; and one son, Ted Anthony Manuel.

Father Joshua Guillory officiated.

MARJORIE FONTENOT CHAPMAN

BELAIRE COVE - Funeral services were held for Marjorie Fontenot Chapman, 79, of Belaire Cove, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Belaire Cove at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 22. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ms. Chapman died Monday, April 20, 2009, at her residence.

Survivors include one son, L.J. Chapman of Belaire Cove; three daughters, Linda May and her husband, Johnnie, Donna Chapman and Jackie Chapman, all of Belaire Cove; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ambrose and Evia Fontenot; her husband, Mayo Chapman; one daughter, Sherry Chapman; and two sisters, Verline Dennotter and Rose Spann.

Father Gene Tremie officiated.

EUNICE - Funeral services were held for Clifford Vallaire, 49, of Eunice, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mowata at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 18. Burial followed in the Frey Cemetery.

July 17, 1933 - April 17, 2009

TURKEY CREEK - Funeral services were held for Curtis Everette Johnson Sr., 75, of Turkey Creek, at the Turkey Creek Church of Christ at 2 p.m., Monday, April 20. Burial followed in the McCormick Cemetery.

DORIS SOILEAU ORTEGO

May 31, 1922 - April 22, 2009

Funeral services will be held for Doris Soileau Ortego, 86, of Grand Prairie, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Grand Prairie Friday, April 24. Burial will follow in the church mausoleum.

A great mother, Ms. Ortego died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Evangeline Extended Care Hospital in Mamou. She was a member of the Altar Society in Grand Prairie and was very active with Farm Bureau. She was a past parade marshall.

Survivors include two sons, Jack D. Ortego and his wife, Sheral, of Grand Prairie and Dennis Luke Ortego of Broussard; one daughter, Karleen Vidrine of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Annie S. Vidrine of Ville Platte and Etheline S. Hebert of Alexandria; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Mattie Lafleur Soileau; and her husband, Luke J. Ortego.

Visitation will be held today, April 23, from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m., with a rosary being recited this evening, and will resume again from 8 a.m. Friday morning until the time of services.
