It's not a carport, not a boat shed; it's a culvert

Gilchrist Construction of Alexandria workers are putting together a new culvert for the Richard Gulley crossing on West Vine.

The 72-feet long culvert was delivered to the site in parts that are being assembled this week.

The culvert was manufactured by an CONTECH, an international company with a plant in Eunice. The supplier of the culvert was Coastal Culvert, a locally owned and operated business.

The section of West Vine involved is between 12th Street and Rodney Street and is closed to traffic.

City officials have estimated the closure, which began last week, at 30 days.

Gilchrist is expected to begin work on pulling out the deteriorating culvert on Monday.
