Eunice firefighters respond to 3 afternoon calls

Eunice firefighters were busy during a thunderstorm Thursday afternoon. At 2:34 p.m. firefighters went to a blown transformer in the alley in the 100 block of South 2nd Street, Nine minutes later they were sent to a house at 1401 Park Avenue where lightning had knocked a hole in the peak of the roof. Capt. Garrett Daville said the lightning blew a ceiling fan off, broke light bulbs and knocked a hole in a wall at the residence. At 3:59 p.m. firefighters were dispatched to a hot water heater fire in a residence in the 400 block of Pierrotti Street. The hot water heater fire was stopped with a fire extinguisher, Daville said. No injuries were reported.
