Lady Cats win OT thriller

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats outscored the Opelousas High Lady Tigers 10-9 in overtime to take a 47-45 victory in district 4-4A action Tuesday at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Durrel Peloquin’s Lady Cats improved to 11-4 overall and to 2-1 in district action with the win.
Opelousas fell to 4-14 overall and to 1-2 in district play.
The Lady Tigers dominated the action in the first quarter, rushing out to a 12-4 lead.
The Lady Cats did better in the second quarter, with eight points to 12 for the Lady Tigers.
But the Lady Bobcats were the hot team coming out of halftime, outscoring Opelousas 10-4 in the third quarter to pull within six points heading into the fourth quarter.
Natasia Miles extended the lead for the Lady Tigers with a driving layup, giving her team a 30-22 advantage.
With 6:56 left in the fourth quarter, the Lady Tigers held a 33-26 lead.
But the Lady Bobcats went on an 11-4 run to finish the quarter, forcing a 37-37 tie.
Ashley Washington scored four points and Dashaya Vigers had five during that stretch.
The Eunice girls exploded early in the overtime, taking a 45-39 lead with 2:02 remaining in overtime.
Senior Kate McLemore added a field goal on a feed from Washington with 1:10 left to put the Lady Cats up 47-40.
Opelousas would make it interesting in the final minute with three field goals, but ultimately ran out of time.
Vigers led the scoring for the Lady Cats with 18 points. Washington added 13 and McLemore chipped in with seven.
Bethany Issac, Hali Jack, Logan Ledoux, and Beulah Bradley added two apiece, while Mia Lejeune had one for the Lady Cats.
Miles topped the scoring for the Lady Tigers with 18 points. Shana Duriso also hit double figures with 13. Sydney Stewart had seven.
The Lady Bobcats will travel to face Washington-Marion on Friday in Lake Charles in district play.

OHS 70, Eunice 52
The Opelousas High Tigers overwhelmed the Eunice High Bobcats early on as they pulled away for a 70-52 victory in district 4-4A action Tuesday night at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats saw their record fall to 6-12 overall as they fell in their initial district action of the season. Opelousas improved to 12-6 overall and to 1-0 in district play.
The game was tight in the first three minutes of the game, with the Tigers holding a 9-5 lead with 4:45 left in the first quarter. But the Tigers went on a 14-2 run from that point on to hold a 23-7 lead after one quarter. The Tigers extended their lead behind the 3-point shooting of David Broussard, who nailed three goals from beyond the arc in the second quarter. The Tigers scored 21 to build a 44-19 halftime lead.
The Cats tried to make it a game in the third quarter as they outscored the Tigers 19-15 in the period. Travis Godfrey led the way with six points for the Cats in that period. The Cats also outscored the Tigers 14-11 in the final quarter, but it was too late to affect the outcome.
Broussard topped the Tigers in scoring with 23 points. DaQuin Bellard added 17 and Terrell Lewis had 10 for the Tigers.
Godfrey led the Bobcats in scoring with 12 points. Paul Hebert added eight, while Kevin Williams, Jerwaski Thomas, and Darious Richard added six points apiece.
The Bobcats travel to Lake Charles on Friday to take on the Washington-Marion Chargin’ Indians.
