Long-time legislator
MARRERO – Services are Tuesday for former legislator Chris Ullo. He died Jan. 16 at age 85.
He was a Democrat who served 16 years in the Louisiana House and 20 years in the Louisiana Senate before term limits ended his career. He was in the hardware business.
Survivors include his wife Joyce, a son and three daughters.
Arrangements are by Mothe.
Mardi Gras pioneer
LAFAYETTE – Services are Tuesday for women’s Mardi Gras pioneer Elaine Brown. She died Jan. 15 at age 89.
She was a founder of the first women’s Mardi Gras krewe in Lafayette, former president of the PTA at three schools and a founding member spouse of the Petroleum Club. She was a charter member of Oakbourne Country Club.
Survivors include three children.
Arrangements are by Delhomme.
LSP commander
BATON ROUGE – Services for former state police commander and retired lieutenant colonel Ted Newnam will be Monday. He died Jan. 16 at age 93.
After retiring from the U.S. Air Force, he was a Louisiana State Police commander for 21 years. He was also a La. National Guard brigadier general.
Survivors include his wife Elmira and a daughter.
Arrangements are by Rabenhorst.
English lit scholar
NATCHITOCHES – Services NSU Scholars College professor Dr. James “Jay” Means will be Saturday. He died Jan. 11 at age 70.
He was a specialist in 18th and 19th century English literature. He was on the Universite’ Laval faculty in Canada for 15 years before joining Northwestern State.
Survivors include a sister.
