Bengals to hold black pot cook-off

If you love cooking in your favorite old black pot or you need to practice before the Annual World Championship Crawfish Etouffee Cookoff, the LSU Eunice baseball team is sponsoring a Black Pot Tailgate Cook-off on March 22.
The Bengal Athletic Club is holding the cook-off in conjunction with the LSU Eunice – Delgado Dolphins doubleheader.
“We want the community to come out to the ball park that weekend,” LSUE head coach Jeff Willis said.
“We want those who don’t usually watch baseball come out for the cookoff and see how much fun they can have at a game.
“There will be really good food and fun jumps for the children.
“Plus with Delgado visiting, there will be five hours of good baseball.”
The finished dish will be sold with the proceeds going to the Bengal athletics.
There is no entry fee and booths can be set up after 11 a.m.
Cooks should prepare at least 15 pounds of food/meat to be served.
Food needs to be ready for purchase by 3:30 p.m.
The winning booth is determined by the number of tickets collected.
Prizes for the winning booth include four LSU Eunice baseball pullovers, four baseball season passes and a framed poster signed by the Bengal team.
Participating cooks must provide their own four-ounce bowls, napkins, utensils as well as a tent, tables, etc.
“You can cook anything as long as it is in a black pot,” Willis said.
Willis said he is hoping the Black Pot Cook-off will become an annual event that will include a Lady Bengal softball double header.
“We want it to be great day that will keep fans here all day,” Willis said. For more information, contact Bengal Food Club President Denel LaFleur at 654-4114.
