A home guard of one or two companies to organize a second line of defense against an invasion attempt is being formed here. Dr. H. Jenkins said the guard will drill regularly.

Norton Bergeron, who just completed four years in the US Navy, has enlisted in the Army. He is the son of Mrs. C.S. Bergeron.

2nd Lt. Henry Sabatier has been designated a naval aviator and assigned to duty with the aircraft squadrons of the US Marine Corps. He is the son of Eunice Sabatier.

James Bollich, attached to the US Army Aviation Corps in the Philippines, cabled his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Bollich, that he is OK. He had not been heard from since the Japanese invasion of the islands. His brothers, Stephen and Andrew, are also in the military service.

Four Eunice coeds are on the LSU Honor Roll for 1941-41. They are Eunice Wade, Ruth Lafleur, Marie Charlton and Jean Fontenot.

The Gulf Public Service Co. is spending about $15,000 to upgrade distribution facilities in Eunice, according to manager Coley Prudhomme.

Prof. H.J. Bergeron will succeed Prof. Charles A. Randel as Eunice High principal for the remainder of the year. Randel is entering military service.

Joe Johnson of St. Edmund’s High won the 105-pound state boxing championship. He is captain of this year’s team at the school and the son of Arnestor Johnson.
