LSMA virtual school offering 44 prep credit courses

The Virtual School at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts will offer 44 different high school credit courses this coming 2014 school year.
“We have provided online courses through private and Louisiana Course Choice enrollment to 679 students this year,” said Leslie Elliottsmith, director of the Virtual School. “The LSMSA Virtual School is the largest Course Choice provider for this school year and will continue to offer quality online high school courses for the 2014-15 school year.”
Courses are taught by certified experienced online instructors. Courses range from Algebra I to calculus, earth science to physics, Spanish, French, Latin, fine arts survey, computer courses and an array of AP courses. For a full list of course offerings go to www.online.lsmsa.edu.
Students attending public schools should speak with their school counselor about enrolling in an LSMSA Virtual School online course through the Course Choice portal.
Course Choice registration begins Tuesday, April 15, and courses are tuition free for junior high and high school students. Parents of private school students or private schools may register for LSMSA Virtual School online courses through the LSMSA website and pay private tuition.
In the fall, LSMSA will offer a discrete Online Academy for gifted/high potential seventh, eighth and ninth grade students. These students will take year-long online high school courses and, upon passing, receive accelerated high school credit. Courses to be offered for high school credit include Algebra I, geometry, Algebra II, Spanish I, French I, Latin I, earth science, world history, civics, Biology I and fine arts survey.
Parents wanting to receive information about the new Online Academy for gifted/high potential seventh, eighth and ninth grade students should visit the LSMSA website at www.LSMSA.edu and fill out the inquiry form. Course descriptions for all online courses are available on the www.online.lsmsa.edu website.
LSMSA online courses engage the learner through the use of text lessons, audio, graphics, video, imagery and interactive course materials. In addition to online lessons, teachers will lead course content discussions to encourage student critical and analytical thinking concerning specific content topics. Students may manage their class time within a prescribed course schedule or advance faster and complete additional work on a topic.
