LSUE’s Moore leaves for Southeastern
HAMMOND – After leading the Lady Bengals to their first Mississippi-Louisiana Conference title, LSU Eunice head basketball coach Yolanda Moore has moved on after just one season.
Moore was announced as the new head coach for the NCAA Division I Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions on Friday.
The team’s 26-4 record during the 2013-2014 season was the second-most wins in program history.
Former head coach Michael Bari’s 2006-07 team went 28-6 and finished fourth in the national tournament.
“We appreciate all Coach Moore has done for our program here at LSU Eunice. We wish her and her family continued success in future endeavors,” LSU Eunice Athletic Director Jeff Willis said.
Moore replaces Lori Davis Jones (145-200) who resigned after completing her 12th season at the helm of the program.
The Lady Lions finished the 2013-14 season with an 8-22 overall record and a 7-11 record in Southland Conference play, falling short of qualifying for the league’s postseason tournament for the second consecutive season.
Moore was an all-SEC performer at the University of Mississippi and a two-time WNBA Champion with the Houston Comets.
Moore played for the Rebels from 1992-1996, and was a three-time All-SEC honoree.
She was named an AP All-America honorable mention selection as a senior in 1996 and helped lead Ole Miss to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
She is fourth in the Ole Miss career record book in free throws made (336) and is ninth in scoring (1,485).
Professionally, Moore played six years in the WNBA in Europe and Asia.
She earned one of the final roster spots for the Houston Comets in the inaugural WNBA season in 1997 before winning back-to back Championships with Houston in 1997 and 1998.
The Lady Bengals have had three head coaches since the program began in 1999.
Dr. Kathy Barlow was the first coach as she spent 1999-2004 with the Lady Bengals.
Barlow finished with a 54-93 record, building the young program that went to the national tournament in 2003 where they finished seventh in the country.
Bari served as the Lady Bengal head coach from 2004-2013 and compiled a 154-113 record. His teams finished in the top 10 three times: 2007, 2008 and 2011.
