Rayne downs Bobcats

The Rayne High Wolves exploded for eight runs in the third inning on their way to a 14-4 victory over the Eunice High Bobcats in District 4-4A action Tuesday night at Bobcat Field.
The loss dropped the Bobcats to 19-7 overall and to 8-2 in district play. Rayne improved its overall mark to 19-4 and to 8-1 in district play.
Rayne scored a run in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead against Eunice starter Caleb Taylor, while Rayne starter Hunter Keely pitched two shutout innings against the Cats. The Wolves broke open the game in the third inning chased Taylor with their eight run explosion.
Alec Trosclair relieved Taylor in the inning, but he was touched for four runs in the fourth inning before being relieved by Christian Lejeune.
The Wolves banged out 14 hits in five innings, while the Cats would get their first hit on a single by Wes Hebert in the fourth inning. Hebert’s hit came after Jorden Comeaux drew a walk. Comeaux later scored on a groundout by Kalum Fruge. Hebert scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 13-2. It became 14-2 as Rayne scored a single run in the top of the fifth.
The Cats scored their final two runs in the fifth. Gunner Fontenot singled and Andrew Lomas doubled to start the inning. Scotty Bihm drove in Fontenot with a sacrifice fly and Hebert’s grounder scored Lomas.
Keely allowed just three hit in getting the mound win. He walked two, fanned thee, and gave up all four runs. Ty Delahoussaye led the Rayne offense with three hits, including two doubles. Brandt Broussard added three hits for the Wolves.
Last week at Alvin Dark Field in Lake Charles, the Bobcats pounded out 12 hits on their way to a 12-3 District 4-4A victory over the LaGrange High Gators on Friday.
In addition to their offensive output, the Bobcats got a solid mound outing from senior hurler Scotty Bihm. Bihm scattered seven hits over six innings, walking two and striking out eight. The Gators scored all three of their runs in the fifth inning when they put together five of their seven hits. Junior Alec Trosclair pitched the seventh inning for the Cats, walking one and striking out two.
After the Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first inning thanks to an RBI by Jordan Comeaux, the Cats added two in the second inning for a 3-0 advantage. A. P. Sonnier singled and Brennan Ashley doubled, with both scoring on a single by Gunner Fontenot.
The Cats pulled away from the Gators with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Lomas was hit by a pitch to open the inning, Bihm singled, and Comeuax walked to load the bases. An errant throw allowed Lomas to score before Sonnier was hit by a pitch. A drag bunt single by Kalum Fruge brought home another run and Scott Lafleur drove home two more with a single. The final run scored when the Cats pulled off a double steal.
The Gators three-run fifth closed the gap to 8-3, but the Cats got one back in the sixth when Comeaux doubled and Hebert singled. The Cats added their final runs in the seventh on a double by Lafleur, a sacrifice fly by Lomas, and a single by Comeaux.
The Bobcats will travel to Jennings on Saturday to face the Bulldogs in a non-district game. On Tuesday, the Cats travel to take on Crowley in 4-4A action.
