June LeDoux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nolton LeDoux, delivered the valedictory address at Eunice High’s graduation. Co-salutatorians of the 135-member class were Beth Carter and Cassaundra King.
Receiving doctor of medicine degrees from LSU Medical School this month were Mark Roy Jenkins, III and Lawrence McManus, both of Eunice. The class totaled 118.
John Landreneau won first place in both craftsmanship and endurance in the Cub Pack 319 rocket derby. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Landreneau.
Isaac J. Burson, Jr. of Ann Avenue, Eunice, received his bachelor of laws degree at Tulane. He was among the top 10 percent of his class.
Initial work of preparing a home for nutria and catfish is moving briskly at the site northeast of Eunice. The South American rodent will be raised for its fur and its meat. R.P. Fontenot is president of the firm formed earlier this year. The 20-lake complex is the first of its kind in the world.
Laura Kern of 740 South 5th St. has been named administrator of the Operation Headstart summer classes for pre-school underprivileged children in the parish.
The Eunice Economic Development Corp. was formed to promote establishment of new industry in the city. Dr. Jack D. Miller is president. and J. Dudley Guillory is vice president.
Bids will be opened next month for extension and modernization of the Post Office. During the work, the pose office will have temporary quarters in the former King Dollar Store next to St. Landry Bank.
The Eunice Poultry Plant operators on West Laurel agreed that no chickens will be killed on that site.
The City Council passed ordinances invoking harsher penalties for littering in the city.
City Clerk Wade J. Guillett, 58, died after a heart attack. He had been clerk for six consecutive terms.
Sens. Allen Ellender and Russell Long announced a $337,000 federal matching grant has been awarded for construction of the science building at the new LSU branch in Eunice.
A group of young boys helped in the trash pickup before Cleanest City judging. Riding in Mrs. F.J. DeRouen, Jr.’s truck and collecting litter were Mack DeRouen, Larry Miller, Ken Richard, Tim Longman, Steve Picoul Jeff DeRouen, Pat Ardoin, Jere Longman and Barry DeRouen.
J. Winston Ardoin and Veil David Devillier have formed a new law practice, headquartered on West Walnut.
Pierre Guidry & Son has scheduled grand opening of its building materials store at the corner of Maple & Ardoin.
