A fire destroyed the largest model barn of George Joubert’s dairy, as well as smaller buildings used as an office, bottling room and pump house. Joubert, currently building a large home on Park Avenue, said the loss cost about $5,000. He will rebuild.
Mrs. K. Moosa plans to build a brick building at Walnut & Second Streets with room enough for three stores. Cost will be about $15,000.
The project of improvements to the rectory at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, started several months ago by Rev. Father Edmund Daull, is being continued by new rector Rev. Father August Baudizzone.
S.A. Gournay and a party of friends caught plenty of fish at his camp on Lake Cocodrie about 35 miles north of the city. They also enjoyed the fine bathing. Along for the fun were Dr. G.P. Garland, Lee Plauche, A.F. McGee and their sons.
The first rice of the season was brought to Eunice warehouses by Marcenia Deshotel, who farms 10 miles north of the city. The 100 bags brought $3.35 from the American mill in Crowley.
Public schools in Eunice will open on Sept. 15. There will be eight new teachers on the faculties.
Work on four permanent buildings for the Tri-Parish Fair is under way. It is thought they will be complete in time for this October’s fair.
Officers Henry Landry and J.P.O. LeDoux conducted a general cleanup raid, arresting 13 persons charged with bootlegging.
Young George Keller has opened a business in a room between between F.C. Uzzo’s store and Shorty’s Cafe. He dispensing a concoction known as a “Snowball” and doing quite well.
L.S. Johnson and family, formerly of Rayne, have located in Eunice. He will operated Johnson’s Cash Grocery in a new building being constructed by Armand Lavergne on Laurel just off North 2nd.
The Eunice Miniature Golf Course had its grand opening with no charge being made for playing the first day and night. The course is at the corner of South 2nd and Oak streets and is owned by Jack and P.L. Lawrence, Jr., both of Crowley.
