Former mayor
FRANKLIN – Services for former mayor of Franklin E.J. Champagne, Jr. will be Aug. 13. He died Aug. 9 at age 90.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II’s Pacific Theater. He was Franklin city clerk for 17 years before opening a real estate and insurance agency. He was treasurer/coordinator of the St. Mary Parish Police Jury four four years before being elected mayor. After serving one term, he returned to the insurance business, retiring in 2009.
Survivors include four daughters.
