Simpson seeking Ward 2 re-election

Germaine Simpson has announced she is a candidate for re-election for the Eunice City Council Ward 2 seat in the Nov. 4 primary.
She is completing her first full term as a council member. She served one year of her late mother’s unexpired term before election to a full term in 2010.
A Eunice native, she is the daughter of the late Marguerite Fruge-Simpson and Gerald Simpson. She is the granddaughter of the late Altar and Virginia Fruge and the late Gabriel Black and Mary Simpson.
The candidate is a graduate of Eunice High, Class of 1984. She studied criminal justice at LSU Eunice, then attended LSU Baton Rouge. She resumed her college education at McNeese State in 2002 and received a B.S. in criminal justice in 2004. Simpson has earned 12 hours toward a master’s of teaching in Special Education.
She was a paraprofessional at Eunice Elementary from 1990-97 and was employed by Grand Casino Coushatta, where she was promoted to slot supervisor, from 1995-2005.
Simpson was employed by the Evangeline Parish School Board as a Special Education teacher from 2005 to 2008 and taught at Central Middle School in 2008-09. She is now employed by a social service agency.
She is a member of St. Mathilda Church and has been assistant director of Religious Education and a Religious Education instructor at the church.
She belongs to the Adult Gospel Choir and organized and chaired the Friendship/Fellowship Committee.
She organized a housing seminar in 2007 and Women’s Day Conferences in 2006 and 2007. She also organized several town hall meetings and two recreational meetings as well as assisted in organizing a bus service survey.
She is a member of the Parishwide mass transit study committee and is a member of the St. Landry Library Coalition.
The candidate is the mother of Jillian Simpson and the late Gerund Simpson.
