Man allegedly grabs cash, flees; faces charges
Eunice Officers responded to Brownies (150 W Maple Ave) in reference to a robbery.
Upon arrival officers were told that an unknown male wearing a green hooded sweatshirt and dark shorts entered the store and seamed nervous while the cashier was waiting on customers. When the register drawer opened the unknown suspect ran behind the counter while yelling "This is a robbery" while pushing the cashier away according to witnesses.
The suspect then took an undetermined amount of cash from the register and fled. The entire incident was captured on video surveillance. Officers reviewed the video and identified Jeffery Swearington, 44, of Opelousas as the suspect.
Officers checked several locations for the suspect and finally located him near the intersection of Hwy. 190 and Bobcat Drive and took him into custody. Officers discovered money and drug paraphernalia in his possession during his arrest. During the investigation officers discovered that the suspect had a juvenile in the vehicle with him when the robbery took place.
Swearington appeared before 27th Judicial District Judge Mildred Methvin g and bond was set at $30,000. Swearington is presently incarcerated in the Eunice City Jail.
