DETOUR!! La. 13-Maple Ave. junction to close for at least a month
It’s been a while coming, but the crossdrain at La. 13 and Maple Avenue is going to be replaced, beginning Monday, Aug. 25.
The drain is often referred to as a “bridge” though it is a huge culvert buried adjacent to the railroad tracks at the intersection.
The Department of Transportation and Development estimates it will take a month, until Sept. 24, to complete the project.
During the work period, La. 13 will be closed to all through traffic between Aymond and South 1st.
Motorists north and south-bound on La. 13 will have to detour, utilizing La. 91 (West Maple) to La. 735 (LSUE Dr.) and La. 3123 (Tiger Lane).
DOTD officials said NO loads will be permitted in the construction zone.
Work will be done seven days a week, according to DOTD.
The existing 142” x 91” structural plate pipe arch will be removed and replaced.
Earlier this year, subterranean telephone and other communication lines were relocated in anticipation of the drainage structure replacement.
The schedule is predicated on normal weather conditions.
