Mayor candidate withdraws, Moody re-elected

Timothy Smith had a change of heart after qualifying last Friday to run for mayor, and on Monday morning formally withdrew from the Nov. 4 primary election.
His decision leaves Mayor Rusty Moody unopposed for a second four-year term.
Smith said he spent the weekend thinking about the upcoming campaign and decided he had too many irons in the fire.
“I just had too much going on,” he said.
He submitted a formal letter to the Secretary of State’s office, petitioning to be removed from the ballot.
As of Monday mid-day all other candidate fields remained as filled at the deadline.
Any person choosing to challenge a candidacy has five days to do so, and district court has two days to resolve any such challenge.
None has been filed.
