Burleigh G. Doga is a candidate for judge, 15th Judicial District, for the parishes of Acadia, Lafayette, and Vermilion, in the Nov. 4 primary.
He has been an attorney in Crowley for more than 20 years, representing clients throughout the district and beyond in civil and criminal litigation.
In the criminal law arena, Doga has been an Indigent Defender for the 15th Judicial District for 20 years, as well as a retained criminal defense attorney. He is a certified capital defense attorney representing indigent defendants charged with 1st Degree Murder.
Additionally, he has represented both children and parents in family in need of care proceedings, as well as juveniles in delinquency proceedings. Doga is a full time practicing attorney having no other occupational, professional or business interests.
The candidate’s educational background includes graduating from Basile High School in 1974; Bachelor of Law Enforcement from Louisiana State University in 1978; and, Southern University Law Center, cum laude in 1992.
Prior to becoming an attorney, he was an insurance adjuster investigating accident claims on behalf of insurance companies and their insured. Primarily, he investigated accidents in the area of offshore accidents both under the Jones Act, as well as the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.
Additionally, Doga adjusted claims involving automobile accidents, slip and fall, and LA workers’ compensation cases. Doga not only investigated, but also adjusted and settled claims prior to matters entering the lawsuit stage. Thereafter, he was the supervising adjuster working with insurance defense attorneys in preparing cases for trial. Prior to entering law school, he also operated a private investigation firm primarily investigating accidents on behalf of plaintiff personal injury attorneys.
Doga has been active in the community through memberships in the Crowley Lions Club (Lion of the Year 1986), Crowley Chamber of Commerce, Ducks Unlimited, and the Coastal Conservation Association.
The candidate maintains memberships in good standing with the American Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association, Acadia Parish Bar Association (former President), and National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is also an active member and lector at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Crowley.
He was born in 1956 to the late Walter and Rose LeJeune Doga. Doga is the youngest of three children with a brother, the late Bruce Doga of Lake Charles, and sister, Diana Doga Parker, residing in Crowley.
He is married to the former Jill Jackson of Eunice and the father of two children, Candice Doga Pommier of Crowley and Walter Ross Doga of Houston, Texas, as well as stepfather to Andrew Ward of Lafayette and Benjamin Ward of Crowley. Jill and Burleigh also have six grandchildren, Austin, Henri, Eli, Cameron, Dominic, and Caroline.
