Cassidy unseats Landrieu

Congressman Bill Cassidy, a Baton Rouge Republican and physician, on Saturday unseated three-term U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, the last Democratic senator in the Deep South.
With most of the vote counted, he had nearly 60 percent of the tally.
In other federal elections, former Gov. Edwin Edwards lost his bid for Cassidy’s 6th District House seat. A Democrat, he led the November primary but trailed Republican Garret Graves, a former Bobby Jindal administration member, 66 percent to 34.
In House Dist. 5, Richland Parish physician Ralph Abraham, Republican, defeated Jamie Mayo, Democrat and 13-year Monroe mayor, 62 percent to 38.
