Radiologist
SHREVEPORT – Services for retired radiologist Dr. Wynton “Son” Carroll will be Dec. 23. He died Dec. 21 at age 96.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II’s North Africa and Italian campaigns. In July 1949, he began his radiology private practice at Schumpert Hospital with Dr. G. M. Riley. In 1952, Dr. Carroll set up the first radioactive isotope laboratory in Shreveport in the P&S Hospital after receiving his license from the Atomic Energy Commission. In 1957, he raised $50,000 to buy a cobalt unit at Schumpert Hospital and established the first radiation therapy dosimetry program in Shreveport using a Xerox telefax machine connected to M.D. Anderson in Houston.
Dr. Carroll served as Chief of Radiology at Schumpert Hospital with a focus on radiation therapy from 1966 until his retirement in 1987, and was a founder of LSU Medical Center in Shreveport where he served as Associate Clinical Professor of Radiology. In addition, Dr. Carroll served as president of the Shreveport Medical Society and president of the Schumpert Medical Staff, and was the first president of the alumni of the Confederate Memorial Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife Jean and two daughters.

Oil exec
BASTROP – Services will be Dec. 23 for oil executive Robert Ouellette. He died Dec. 21 at age 86.
He was president and co-owner of Spillers Oil Co. He was a co-founder of the Bastrop Boy’s Club and instrumental in establishing youth sports programs and Carter Park.
Survivors include two children.
Arrangements are by Cox.

CFMA advocate
RAYNE – Services for retired USDA official and Cajun French Music Association advocate Milton Mire will be Dec. 24. He died Dec. 22 at age 80.
He was with the USDA for 35 years. He was former president of the CFMA and former member of the CFMA Museum board in Eunice. He was 2003 Frog Festival king.
Survivors include two children.
Arrangements are by Gossen.
