Serious cold tonight through Saturday

Some wintry mix possible near week's end

The National Weather Service is expecting a cool and windy day this afternoon before the mercury dips way below freezing tonight.
High temperatures Wednesday will be in the upper 40s to around 50 in east Texas and central Louisiana, to the low to mid 50s along the I-10 corridor. However, it will be very windy this afternoon, with north winds gusting 25 to 35 mph.
Much colder temperatures are forecast tonight. Lows will range from the upper teens to around 20 in east Texas and central Louisiana, to the low to mid 20s along the I-10 corridor from southeast Texas to southwest and south central Louisiana. High temperatures on Thursday will only make it to the 35 to 40 F range region-wide. No precipitation is forecast Thursday.
Thursday night starts out dry, but increasing moisture brings a small chance for precipitation towards sunrise Friday morning. In east Texas and central Louisiana, this means it could fall as a rain/sleet/freezing rain mix. By midday Friday, temperatures are expected to be above freezing and it will turn to all rain. The I-10 corridor from southeast Texas to southwest and south central Louisiana will be warm enough that it should fall as all rain Friday morning and afternoon.
Late Friday night into Saturday morning, the same situation arises. There will be a small chance for a rain/freezing rain/sleet mix for east Texas and central Louisiana. Temperatures are again forecast to go above freezing by midday Saturday and the precipitation will turn to all rain. The I-10 corridor from southeast Texas to southwest and south central Louisiana will be closer to the rain/freezing rain/sleet mix, so this will be monitored closely.
