Shooting suspect still on lam after eluding capture
Fugitive Theobegi Levier was spotted Tuesday at the apartment complex where his girlfriend lives but eluded a host of officers dispatched to the scene and remains at large.
Levier is wanted for attempted first degree murder in a Eunice narcotics deal gone awry on Saturday night.
He allegedly shot a would-be seller of marijuana from the backseat of an alleged customer vehicle.
The shooting victim was treated and released for a gunshot wound to the head.
City Marshals in Opelousas captured Levier Monday but he jumped from the moving squad car while being transported to jail.
The shooting occurred shortly before midnight on West Peach Street in back of the house.
According to police records, Levier and Kamal Mott, 21, of 139 Dora Lane drove to meet the victim after Mott ordered $500 worth of marijuana from the victim.
After Mott made the arrangements, Levier called him to ask for a ride from 24/7 truck stop casino to his home.
After Mott picked up Levier, the marijuana salesman called Mott to tell him to hurry up.
Levier overhead the transaction details and told Mott he wanted to ride along and buy some dope also.
When the victim got into Mott’s vehicle to do the deal Mott drove around the block, then Levier allegedly grabbed the dealer from the back seat and as he turned Levier allegedly shot him. The bullet traveled through the back of the victim’s head and exited. It shattered the passenger window as it exited the vehicle.
Mott told police he didn’t know Levier had a gun.
Mott is charged with principal to attempted first degree murder and principal to armed robbery.
