Former Eunice mayor (three terms) Curtis Joubert was inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in ceremonies in Winnfield. He is also a former state legislator, Public Service Commission member and member of the Board of Trustees for Colleges and Universities.

Fuel adjustment charges in this month’s natural gas billing are more than double most customers’ base bills.

Eunice High senior football player Ike Rhines signed a scholarship agreement with the University of Louisiana at Monroe..

Mayor Lynn Lejeune said the city is on sound footing, as it just received another audit with no major fiscal issues noted.

The state Department of Environmental Quality says tests show seriously deformed animals found in the City Lake environs are not contaminated. The lake has been closed while tests were conducted.

Glendale Elementary was recognized by the Louisiana Association of Business & Industry as one of the most-improve schools in the state since School Performance Score assessments began in 1998. Phylis Ortego is principal.

Chief Gary Fontenot has hired two new police officers. They are Ryan Fenton and Clint Savoy.

Aurdie Bellard has developed a pharmaceutical machine which involves state-of-the-art automated prescription dispensing technology for his pharmacy. It is called AccuMed.

Jere’ Longman, II, a 1972 graduate of Eunice High, will be inducted into the LSU Hall of Fame. He is on the sports staff of The New York Times and is the author of two books and completing a third.

The men and women tennis leagues have started spring play. Men captains are Buddy Street, Buddy Fay, James Tucker and Vernon Fuselier. Women’s captains are Marlene Richard, Cheryl Manuel, Ching Wasmuth and Jackie Sanders.
