Blue Jays cruise past Hanson, 5-1

LAFAYETTE – St. Edmund faced Hanson Memorial at the University of Louisiana’s Tigue Moore Field on Tuesday.
The college turf was suitable for the Blue Jays as they earned a 5-1 win over the Tigers.
After a scoreless first inning, St. Edmund exploded for three runs in the bottom of the second for a lead they would not give up.
Alex Hunt walked and scored when Jack Brown reached on an error.
Austin Sittig doubled to right field and Ross LaFleur later doubled to center to score Brown and Sittig as the Blue Jays led 3-0.
St. Edmund added a run in the bottom of the fifth when Drake Brunet singled and scored when Brown reached on a fielder’s choice.
Hanson Memorial closed the gap to 5-1 in the top of the sixth inning when Cameron Stovall reached on an error and scored on a triple to center by John Guineze.
St. Edmund added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning begun when William Chachere doubled and Drew Brown walked with two outs.
Gibson LaFleur then singled to left field to plate Chachere and the Jays held on for the 5-1 win as Drew Brown struck out two of the three final Tiger batters.
Brown earned the complete-game win as he struck out five, walked one and scattered six hits over seven innings.
Ross LaFleur went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Brunet went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Gibson LaFleur went 2-for-4, Sittig went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Drew Brown went 1-for-3 with a walk.
William Chachere went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored, while Hunt walked twice and scored a run.
Jack Brown went 0-for-2 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored.
St. Edmund opens District 5-1A play on Tuesday with a trip to Catholic High of Pointe Coupee.
The Blue Jays and the Hornets will have a rematch at 5 p.m. Thursday in Eunice.
