Sacred Heart clips Lady Jays
VILLE PLATTE – It was a battle between rivals, but Sacred Heart of Ville Platte held on for a 3-1 win over St. Edmund Wednesday in a key District 5-1A contest.
The Lady Jays threatened in the first and third innings when Baylee Lafleur hit two singles and again in the top of the fourth frame when Kasey Lafleur, Jami LeBouef and Heidi Bieber also singled but none could score.
Sacred Heart (13-7, 3-2)scored all three runs in the bottom of the fourth, begun as Hannah Lemoine and Lani Fontenot reached on back-to-back fielder’s choices and Sydney Fontenot singled with two outs.
The Lady Trojans took control of the game when Erin Fontenot reached on a three-base error that allowed Lemoine, Lani Fontenot and Sydney Fontenot to score.
The Lady Jays battled back in the top of the fifth inning as Baylee Lafleur singled and scored on a sacrifice from Heather Bieber.
St. Edmund threatened again in the top of the sixth when Kasey Lafleur singled but the Lady Trojans held on for the win.
Elizabeth Soileau picked up her second win over the Lady Jays as she struck out five and allowed one earned run on eight hits.
Kasey Lafleur suffered the loss as she struck out two, walked three and held the Lady Trojans to just three hits.
Baylee Lafleur led St. Edmund with a 3-for-3 performance including a run scored, while Kasey Lafleur went 2-for-3.
Sydney Thibodeaux (1-for-3), Jami LeBouef (1-for-3) and Heidi Bieber (1-for-3) collected the other Lady Jay hits.
St. Edmund (12-5 1-2) will entertain Catholic High of Pointe Coupee at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday before visiting the district leaders on Thursday.
