Eunice police hunting for sniper-like shooter who wounded man in the back

Police chief calls shooting senseless

Eunice police are looking for the person who shot a 23-year-old Eunice man in the back early Wednesday morning.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said the victim, Jeremy Neville, was taken to Lafayette General Hospital after he was shot at Lewis and McArthur streets near Lee’s Barber Shop.
“Some opportunistic coward shot Jeremy Neville in the back,” Fontenot said. “He was transported to the hospital. The injuries I don’t think are life-threatening.”
The call about the shooting to police came at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“He called 911 himself,” Fontenot said. “While walking down the street he heard a gunshot and felt the pain.”
The chief added, “He doesn’t know who did it, but we are going to find out.”
Neville was shot just below the right shoulder, police said. Police also believe a .22-caliber weapon was used.
“If he wants to prove to himself he is not a coward, he needs to come to the police department,” Fontenot said of the shooter.
Fontenot believes there are witnesses to the shooting, but no one had come forward as of Wednesday morning.
Fontenot said police have heard “nothing but good” about Neville and his family are “very good people.”
