Juvenile's arrest linked to street gang
A 15-year-old boy, who is a member of a street gang, has been arrested for two assaults that ocurred this month, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
The teen is charged with attempted armed robbery and second-degree armed robbery, he said.
Fontenot said the teen is part of the street gang, “Goons For Life,” which was identified in association with a June 10 shooting in Eunice.
Sidney Hills, 23, of Goldman Street, Eunice, was charged with attempted second-degree murder.
Fontenot identified Hills as a member of the “Goons For Life.”
The juvenile arrested Wednesday is charged with incidents on June 6 and 10.
In the June 6 incident, the victim said he was approached by the suspect who pointed a gun at him and demanded money, Fontenot said.
“The victim didn’t have any money and the suspect left a little upset,” he said.
A small caliber handgun was used, he said.
In the June 10 incident, the victim said he was hit in the back of the head and knocked unconscious. When he woke up the victim’s wallet was missing.
The wallet was found the next day and returned to the victim. The wallet did not contain any money when found, Fontenot said.
The victim suffered a minor injury to the head.
Both incidents occurred around midnight, which was around the time of the shooting.
The street gang includes youths 14 to 17 years old, he said.
Fontenot said youths under 17 years old are under a curfew. From Sunday through Thursday the curfew is 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. On Friday and Saturday the curfew is midnight to 5 a.m., he said.
“We will be charging parents with improper supervision of their children,” he said.
“If they can’t handle them or keep them in the house, they need to notify us,” he said.
