Lady Bengals moving up
The four softball players were members of the 2013 NJCAA Division II national championship team.
Now the former LSU Eunice Lady Bengals will continue their college careers at the next level.
“They were part of a team who did special things,” Lady Bengal head softball coach Andy Lee said.
Two-time All-American pitchers Destin Vicknair and Raven Cole are both heading to Alabama, but opposite ends of the state.
Vicknair will play for the University of South Alabama in Mobile, while Cole is heading to the University of North Alabama in Florence.
USA is a member of the Sun Belt Conference, while UNA is part of Division II’s Gulf South Conference.
Danielle Cruickshank will join Cole at UNA.
Pitcher/infielder Kayla Davidson will play for Millsaps College, a Division III program in the Southern Athletic Association.
Vicknair finished her sophomore season with a 18-4 record including 192 strikeouts, 37 walks and a 1.19 ERA.
Vicknair hit .431 with 18 doubles, two triples, 11 home runs, 65 RBI, 26 walks and 37 runs scored
Cole recorded a 20-2 record with 204 strikeouts, 45 walks and a 0.85 ERA.
Cole hit .321 with two doubles, five home runs, 20 RBI, 21 walks and 11 runs scored.
Cruickshank hit .338 with 13 doubles, six home runs, 24 RBI with 27 runs scored, 12 walks and seven stolen bases her sophomore season.
Davidson hit .313 with two doubles, six RBI and four runs scored in just 16 at bats.
The Lady Bengal sophomores finished their LSU Eunice careers with a 109-9 overall record.
“They are all quality players and I am happy they are going to be able to keep playing,” Lee said.
“They won a lot of ball games, a national championship and they are all quality people.”
