Cell phone use banned around schools

Staff Report

The use of cell phones is banned around most schools, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
“If you are on the phone, when you get to school zones put the phone down,” he said. “Stop talking until you get out of that school zone.”
Most schools have signs about cell phone use, he said.
The ban includes texting.
The school year started Wednesday at St. Edmund and today at the public schools.
Fontenot urged people to pay attention and “... just be careful in the school zones.”
Motorists should be aware that streets around schools may revert to one-way usually from 7 to 9 a.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.
Fontenot also said visitors to school campuses should report to the school office on arriving at the campus.
