A national publishing company has selected two music books by Eunice Symphony Orchestra founder Nancy Simon for publication, bringing to seven the number she has written.
Frankie Savoy has gained semifinalist ranking in the National Merit Scholarship program, according to Leon Estes, assistant principal in charge of St. Edmund High.
City Marshal Mickey Guillory defeated incumbent Dist. 41 Rep. Greg Fruge in primary voting. Donald Menard, former Cankton mayor, was elected first parish president. Bobby Jindal and Kathleen Blanco are headed to November runoff for governor.
Joe Bischoff set a St. Edmund’s record with a 104-yard return of an interception for a touchdown against Basile.
Amy Duplechin, Central Middle School, is the regional teacher of the year.
The City Council gave final approval to the Rotary Club’s fountain project. The fountain will be in an area honoring veterans, with memorial brick pavers available.
Voters who rejected the 5-mill tax to pay for a police and fire raise will be asked again next year to consider a similar proposal, according to Police Chief Goose Fontenot.
Four armed robbers broke into video poker machines and did other damage at DC’s Restaurant.
