Man wounded three times in Christmas shooting
Eunice police say a man who took a swing at another man on Christmas Day outside Kim’s Market on Laurel Avenue ended getting shot three times.
Clarence Joseph Malveaux, 20, 400 block of North 11th Street, Eunice, and the victim crossed paths near the entrance of the market at about 5 p.m., Eunice Deputy Police Chief Richard Daigle said.
The victim swung and missed Malveaux and then went into the store, he said.
When the victim left the market and walked into the parking lot Malveaux fired four shots from a 9mm pistol and was hit by three of the rounds, he said.
The victim was hit in the back of the leg, in the hand and in the buttocks, he said. A cell phone in the victim’s back pocket absorbed the energy from the bullet that struck the victim’s buttock.
Bullets also struck a vehicle in the parking lot, he said.
Daigle said the last he heard about the victim was Acadian Medical Center was seeking to transfer him to another hospital because of the hand injury.
Daigle said Malveaux was charged with attempted second-degree murder in July. He was of jail on bail at the time of the Christmas Day shooting, he said.
In July, Malveaux fired two shots at a man with one bullet grazing the right side of the target’s torso, Police Chief Randy Fontenot reported at the time.
