St. Edmund splits games with CHPC
NEW ROADS – TheCatholic High of Pointe Coupee Hornets jumped back into the District 5-1A championship hunt with a 69-40 win over the St. Edmund Blue Jays Tuesday.
CHPC (6-8, 1-1) opened the district with a loss to Westminster Christian Academy (9-6, 1-1), while the Blue Jays (1-18, 1-1) defeated False River Academy 53-25 in their district opener.
CHPC jumped out to a 21-9 first quarter lead, sparked by six points from both Jared Lee and Tray Pichon.
John Ross Guillory led the Jays with five points in the period.
The Hornets pushed ahead with a 17-8 second period surge to grab a 38-17 advantage at halftime.
Lee was the hot hand again with nine points in the period, while Dylan Bieber scored six points for the Jays.
The second half was closer as CHPC went on a 17-11 push in the third period and the Jays closed the game with a 14-12 battle.
Andrew Lacour scored seven points in the third period for the Hornets as Cullen Brown sparked the Jays with four points.
Pichon collected seven points in the fourth quarter to finish with 22 points.
Lee scored 15 points and Lacour contributed 13 points for the Hornets.
Brown scored five points in the final period to finish with 13 points.
Bieber added 12 points for the Jays, while Guillory chipped in 10 points.
The Lady Jays (6-11, 2-0) remained undefeated in district play with a 35-30 win over CHPC.
St. Edmund jumped out to a 10-4 first quarter lead, sparked by four points from Maggie Larriviere and Abby Miller.
The Lady Hornets outscored St. Edmund 6-4 in the second period as the Lady Jays were held to buckets from Allison LaFleur and Sydney Thibodeaux.
The two teams battled to a 9-9 tie in the third period as St. Edmund took a 23-19 advantage into the fourth quarter.
Miller pushed in four points to aid the Lady Jay offense.
St. Edmund sealed the win as the Lady Jays outscored Catholic 12-11 in the final period.
Miller contributed six points in the quarter to finish with 14 points.
St. Edmund travels to WCA Friday in another District 5-1A contest.
