MLK events scheduled in Eunice
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday will be celebrated with a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Southeast Center in Eunice.
Area ministers will be part of the program, offering prayers, and songs
The speaker for the breakfast event will be the Rev. Eddie Castor Jr, pastor of St. Luke Baptist Church.
The annual parade and program will be held Jan. 17 with a lineup at Eunice City hall parking lot at 1 p.m.
The parade route is new this year. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and will proceed onto Maple Avenue onto Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and turning onto Anne Street, near Golden Star Baptist Church and ending at the New Zion Baptist Church, on the corner of Anne and Nimitz streets.
This year’s program will be held at the New Zion Baptist Church J.G. Frank Life Center at 3 p.m.
Guest speaker will be Josie Frank of the 27th Judicial District court.
Frank is a licensed practicing attorney with certifications by: Louisiana Supreme Court; United States Federal Court, Western, and Middle Districts; certified mediator, Louisiana; certified arbitrator, AAA; panel arbitrator, National Association of Security Dealers, Inc.; and panel arbitrator, Better Business Bureau.
Her professional associations and religious affiliations include: Louisiana State Bar Association; St. Landry Parish Bar Association; Society of Federal Labor Relation Professionals; National Bar Association; New Zion Baptist Church; Socialite Club of Eunice; President of Women Leadership Council for St. Landry-Evangeline Parish United Way; Community Development Council of Acadiana, Inc.; and Board Member, Southwest Louisiana Primary Health Clinic, Opelousas.
All activities are free and the public is invited.
The Dr. M.L. King committee encourages the public to wear red for the festivities.
