Mayoral candidate forum is 6 p.m. today
The Kiwanis Club of Eunice is sponsoring a mayoral debate at 6 p.m. today at the Liberty Theater.
The event is to open with Kenneth Pitre, moderator, delivering a welcome and reviewing the format, Kelsey Griffith, who is organizing the event for the club, said.
A special election is scheduled March 5 to elect a mayor and Ward 4 alderman.
Candidates will be be give five minutes each to make presentations.
There will be question and answer format with candidates given three to five minutes to respond.
Planned questions are:
• Do you plan on expanding the city limits of Eunice? If so, why; if not, why not?
• Please share your vision for street improvement projects in Eunice.
• What is the first item or program you would fund if there were extra money in the city’s budget, and why?
• Eunice seems to have a lack of youth recreation opportunities, especially for middle- and high-school age students. What is your stance on this, and how would you improve the opportunities for youth in our city?
Candidates will then be given an opportunity make a closing statement up to three minutes long.
Griffith said the candidates who have confirmed their attendance are Scott Fontenot, Roland Miller and William “Mr. Bill” Thompson. Tim Longman has declined to participate, she said.
Candidates in the Ward 4 election are:
James “Donnie” Fontenot, No Party, 421 S. Fifth St., Eunice.
“Dale” Soileau, Democrat, 441 S. Sixth St., Eunice.
Shantell Arredondo Ward, Republican, 1451 Scott St. Eunice.
